Know your “why” and never forget it
We all start something for a reason. Whether that’s a new job, a new hobby, a sport, a business.
We all have a “why.”
Now that why can range from I need “more money,” “to be more fulfilled,” “to be a better person,” “to evolve,” or simply “because your dog requires expensive toys that he will immediately destroy then laugh in your face for wasting the money…..” Sigh. Whatever that why is, don’t forget it ….because there will be a time when the world is chaotic around you, the job is harder than expected, the growth is happening slower than you planned, or your dog is being extra evil that day… see below..
But Pro Tip: when you are beaten down and exhausted, just go back to that “Why.”
It’s the quickest and easiest way to ground and reinvigorate your spirit in order to keep moving through that challenge.
My Challenge
Starting TRAX Analytics was…needless to say…a challenge in every aspect of the word. From creating a sister company to our 52 year old family business, growing a team from scratch, creating a software platform that could scale, supporting that platform when we did scale, combatting large companies with deep pockets who “liked” the idea too (mmhmm… we know what you are up too), and all the fun legal and financial aspects that come into play when growing a business from the ground up… not to mention the personal and social sacrifices as well…so yeah… a smidge of a challenge. 😊
But it was during those challenging moments that I HAD to remember my “why” in order to just keep going.
My Why
1) I wanted to create something from my own vision and see it through to completion.
2) I wanted to create a team, grow that team, and also learn from that team.
3) I wanted to be challenged, stimulated, and pushed to grow as a person, a leader, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a CEO.
4) I wanted to create wealth for those around me.
5) I wanted to change an industry, to make a big impact on that industry, and to create something groundbreaking.
6) I wanted to create a company that could break the standard business rules, and create a new way of doing things.
7) I wanted to show everyone around me that you are never too young and ‘inexperienced’ to master something hard. I wanted to prove everyone wrong that told me no or to not take the leap.
8) I wanted to be an inspiration- even if it was just one person, to one woman, to one student.
And of course… last but not least…
9) To be able to put food on King Milos table and provide plenty of those expensive toys…
So remember, things will get challenging, but its temporary. Often times chasing your dreams comes with a mixture of emotions (good and bad) and a series of experiences that will force you to evolve. However, when you are clear on your “why” its much easiest to step back from the chaos, take a breath, and smile at the fact that at least you are on a path that you chose and one step closer to fulfilling your dreams.
Lastly, enjoy a series of nightmare photos of the King so you can further understand the daily challenge :)
