Resilience is your superpower

We all have a superpower that’s not talked about enough… resilience.

I truly believe that resilience is one of the top 3 characteristics that determines your success.

But first, let’s align. What does it really mean?

The definition of resilience is “the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties.”

Let me get real and honest with you folks. If you want to become a successful entrepreneur or “intrapreneur” (like Patrick always calls himself), you have to be extremely resilient- there is no other option. You are going to face hurdles, challenges, and be tested physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually during your journey. You will be knocked down, run on little sleep, have doors slammed in your face, get yelled at, and be told no thousands of times… but those who succeed are the ones that have mastered the ability to let their emotions process (enter the dancing 😊 ), dust themselves off, and get right back at achieving the goal.  And here is the kicker…If you want to succeed, you have to continuously work on shortening the time it takes you to break down and stand back up.

Here is an honest example:

Through my journey with TRAX, I have been tested and knocked down more times than I can count- and that is ongoing.  And let’s not forget that I started the business in my twenties so I felt that I had more to prove than those around me as a young female. I wanted to prove I was strong, capable, and unshakeable. I never wanted to appear weak so I never showed to the outside world that sometimes it really was overwhelming. I thought that was resilience. But what I didn’t realize was that sucking in those emotions and continuing to grind actually decreased my resilience. It created a scenario where I wouldn’t let myself feel the stress until it poured over uncontrollably—and you know what? I ended up having break downs in secret that took much longer to stand up after because they were so overdue and so overwhelming.

What I have learned in this entrepreneurial journey, is that resilience doesn’t mean suffering in silence and ignoring the hardship. Once I realized that when something awful happens, its a sign of strength to let that emotion out quickly and effectively, in order to stand back up much faster. Equipped with this knowledge and skill, I now have a superpower no one can take away from me.

Sometimes what that self care looks like :)

My encouragement to you all, whether you are on a journey as a founder, leader, or contributing to a team in any way--- focus your time on enhancing your resilience. It is the secret super power the successful don’t share.  Get so strong mentally, emotionally, and physically, that WHEN you get knocked down (and you will), it becomes much easier and faster to dust yourself back off again. Get so strong that when something happens, it doesn’t derail your hopes and dreams.  Become so resilient that no matter what the universe throws at you personally and professionally, that you have the tools to process it, and grow quickly.

What they don’t tell you is that you end up running faster than everyone when you don’t have to carry burdens on your shoulders. So let it go, find a love and support around you, and become resilient.

Tips to enhance your resilience when something tough is thrown your way (great for business and personal!):

1)    Immediately stop what you are doing. Don’t numb or distract yourself from the emotion or feeling. Let yourself feel it. It is sh*tty and is hard, and that’s okay.

2)    Remind yourself that everything is temporary and trust in yourself that it’ll all work out.

3)    Write it down! Write down why you are feeling the feeling, write down why you think its happening and heres the key: get really focused on ALL the positive outcomes of the negative situation. I know its hard, but do it. It gives you your power back over the situation.

4)    Move and do a little self care!  Get the energy flowing and out of your body. Go for a walk, work out, dance. Do a face mask and watch a movie. give yourself grace.

5)    Then sit back down and create a plan to tackle the problem. Seeing the end result or a new goal gives you something positive to focus on versus the negativity.

6) Lastly…. find gratitude for the challenge. (This is a skill that comes later with the work…) Be grateful that you are growing, learning, expanding. Everything happens for a reason.. be grateful for that reason.

When you do the work to master this, you will start to notice that the time it takes you to get back up becomes shorter and shorter. You become more resilient day after day.

In life and in business, you can have all the plans in the world, but they will be forced to change one way or the other. Its how quickly you dust yourself off, pivot, and create new plans in a positive light that will keep you skyrocketing to achieve all your dreams. And dang, when I look back on my life and where I am now, I can honestly say I am so proud of the person I have become because I have worked so diligently on this aspect of life.

Never forget this superpower.
